Spicy Seafood Soup

Ingredients

  • 3 Tbsp butter or margarine
  • 1/2 c chopped onion
  • 1/2 c choppped celery
  • 3 8-oz bottles clam juice
  • 1 c water
  • 1 14-oz. can garlic and diced tomatoes, not drained
  • 1 12-oz. spicy V-8
  • 1/4 c. white wine
  • 3/4 c barley
  • 1 bay leaf
  • 1 Tbsp worcestshire sauce
  • 1 t Old Bay seasoning
  • 1 t dry oregano
  • 1 t garlic powder
  • 1 t tabasco
  • 1/2 t cayenne
  • 1-1/3 lb. shrimp, peeled and deveined
  • 2 8-oz. cans crab, picked over
  • 1/4 c. lime juice
  • 4 T. cilantro, optional
  1. Melt butter in large pot over med-high heat.  Add onion and celery and saute until tender. Add next 5 ingredients, bring to a boil. Add next 8 ingredients, simmer stirring occasionally for 25 minutes. Add seafood, simmer until shrimp is no longer pink
  2. Take off heat and add lime juice and cilantro
  3. Season with salt and pepper
