3 cups all-purpose flour, sifted
3 3/4 teaspoons Clabber Girl Baking Powder
3/4 teaspoon salt
1/4 teaspoon ginger
1/4 teaspoon cinnamon
1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
1/4 teaspoon ground cloves
1/2 cup sugar
1 1/2 cups milk
2 tablespoons shortening, melted
Sift flour, measure. In a mixing bowl, combine and sift flour, Clabber Girl Baking Powder, salt, ginger, cinnamon, nutmeg, cloves and sugar. In a separate bowl, beat egg; add milk and shortening. Pour egg mixture into flour mixture and stir quickly. Pour into greased and lightly floured loaf pan. Let stand 20 minutes.
Bake at 350 degrees F for 1 hour and 15 minutes or until done.
Makes 1 loaf.
Note: Add a cupful of chopped pecans or walnuts to the batter before baking for a tasty crunch.
