Salisbury Steaks

1-1/2 lbs. ground beef
2 slices fresh bread, cut into cubes (about 1-1/2 cups)
1/2 tsp. ground pepper
4 T butter
2 medium onions, sliced thinly
2 T cornstarch
2 tsp. beef flavor bouillon
1 tsp. Kitchen Bouquet seasoning
1-1/2 cups water
Mix ground beef, bread cubes, and pepper. Shape mixture into 4 to 6 oblong patties. Place the meat patties on a broiler pan, and broil in oven until well browned. Turn patties over and repeat on other side. While meat is browning, place butter and onions in a large skillet or fry pan. Cook over medium heat, until onions are tender. Stir in water, cornstarch, bouillon, and Kitchen Bouquet. Add meat patties, and stir until mixture thickens. Lower heat. Cover and simmer for about 10 minutes. Serve with mashed potatoes. Or, if you prefer, you can also serve with hot cooked rice or noodles.
