Orange Slice Cake


1 cup Butter
2 cups Sugar
4 Eggs
1 teaspoon Baking Soda
1/2 cup Buttermilk
1 pound Gumdrops, large Orange slices
14 ounces Dates, diced
2 cups Nuts, chopped
1 cup Coconut , flaked
4 cups Flour, unsifted
1 cup Orange Juice
1 cup Powdered Sugar, unsifted


In a large mixing bowl, cream butter & sugar until well blended; add eggs and mix well. Add soda to buttermilk in a small bowl; stir into first mixture. Add flour, mix well and add remaining ingredients; mix well. Pour into a prepared 9 x 13 inch baking pan. Bake 2 hours at 300 degrees F. Place a pan of water in oven until last 45 minutes to keep cake moist. When cake comes out of oven, mix orange juice and powdered sugar in a small bowl. While cake is hot, pour orange juice & powdered sugar mixture over cake and let stand overnight to cool & set.
