Michigan Apple-Cheese Bread

1/2 cup shortening
2/3 cup sugar
2 eggs, well beaten
2 cups all-purpose flour
1 teaspoon Clabber Girl Baking Powder
1 teaspoon baking soda
1 apple – peeled & shredded
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/2 cup grated sharp cheddar cheese
1/2 cup chopped walnuts
1/2 teaspoon cinnamon
1/2 teaspoon nutmeg
1 cup powdered sugar
1 – 2 teaspoons milk
chopped walnuts

Cream shortening and sugar until fluffy; add eggs and mix well. Add dry ingredients; mix well. Fold in apples, cheese and nuts. Spoon into greased and floured loaf pan

Bake at 350 degrees F. for 60 minutes, until tester inserted in center comes out clean. Cool completely on wire rack before glazing.

Prepare Glaze:
Combine powdered sugar and milk. Pour over cooled loaf; garnish with chopped nuts and sprinkle with nutmeg.
