Jewish Apple Cake


5 apples, peeled and sliced (Rome Beauty, Winesap or Delicious)
5 tablespoons of sugar combined with 2 tablespoons of cinnamon
3 cups flour
2 cups sugar
1 tablespoon baking powder
1 cup vegetable oil
2 l/2 tsp vanilla
1 tsp salt
1/4 cup orange juice
4 beaten eggs


Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Warm tube pan; grease and flour it. Sprinkle sugar and cinnamon mixture over sliced apples, mix well; set aside. Mix together (by hand) the remaining ingredients. Pour half of the batter in the prepared tube pan. Layer with half of the apples. Add rest of batter and layer with remaining apples. Bake 1-1/2 hours. Serve plain or with dab of Cool Whip.
