  • 1/4 cup warm water
  • 3/4 cup warm milk
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/2 cup almonds
  • 3 cups white flour
  • 4 tbsp softened margarine
  • 1 tbsp lemon zest, to taste
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1 pkg dry yeast
  • 4 oz marzipan, optional
  • 2 eggs or egg substitute
  • candied cherries to tasteGlaze ingredients:


  • 1-2 oz melted semi sweet chocolate
  • 1/8 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1 tbsp water
  • 2 tbsp lemon juice
  • 1 cup confectioners sugar



  1. Combine the yeast, water and let stand for 5 minutes
  2. Separately mix granulated sugar, salt, butter, eggs and milk
  3. Add sugar mixture to the yeas mixture. Use a hand mixer at medium speed. Add 1 1/4 cup of flour. Then add marzipan
  4. Cover this dough and keep in a warm place for 10 minutes
  5. Add in remaining flour to make a dough which is easily formed. Cover and refrigerate for 30 minutes
  6. Preheat the oven to 375 degrees F. Pat dough into an oval about 1/4 inch thick. Fold dough in half
  7. Butter a cookie sheet. Place dough on the cookie sheet. Cover and allow to rise to double its original volume
  8. Bake for 35 minutes. Mix sugar, lemon, water, and glaze the cake. After glazing dribble the melted chocolate over the cake
