French Apple Pie

Ingredients

  • 5 to 7 tart apples
  • 3/4 to 1 c. sugar
  • 2 Tbsp. enriched flour
  • dash of salt
  • 1/4 tsp. nutmeg
  • 1 tsp. cinnamon
  • 1/2 c. raisins
  • 1 recipe plain pastry
  • 2 Tbsp. butter or margarine
  • 1/2 c. vanilla icing
  1. Pare apples and slice thin.
  2. Mix sugar, flour, salt, spices and raisins; add to apples. Fill 9-inch pastry lined pie pan. Dot with butter. Adjust top crust.
  3. Bake in hot 400ยบ degrees oven for 50 minutes.
  4. If apples aren’t tart, add 1 tablespoon lemon juice or grated lemon peel if desired.
  5. Cool for 5 minutes then spread vanilla icing on top crust. Then let pie finish cooling
