Dutch Apple Pie

Ingredients

  • 3 to 4 tart cooking apples
  • 1 unbaked 9 in pie shell
  • 1 egg slightly beaten
  • 1 C whipping cream
  • 1 1/2 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1 C sugar
  • 3 Tbsp. flour
  • 1/2 tsp. cinnamon
  • 1/4 tsp nutmeg
  • 1/8 tsp salt
  • 4 tsp butter or margarine
  • 1/2 C walnuts, coarsely chopped
  • 3/4 C shredded sharp Cheddar cheese, if desired
  1. Wash, quarter, core, pare, and thinly slice apples.
  2. Turn into pie shell.
  3. Blend egg, cream, and vanilla. Gradually add a mixture of sugar, flour, nutmeg, cinnamon, and salt, mixing well. Pour over apples. Dot with butter and sprinkle walnuts on top.
  4. Bake at 450º for 10 minutes; turn oven to 350º and bake 35-40 minutes or until apples are tender and top is lightly browned.
  5. Remove from oven and sprinkle with cheese.
