Chocolate Donut Balls


vegetable oil or shortening
2 cups Bisquick
1/3 cup sugar
2 tbsp unsweetened cocoa
1 egg, slightly beaten
2/3 cup milk
1/2 tsp vanilla
1/4 tsp almond extract
1/2 cup canned flaked coconut
powdered sugar


heat oil in heavy skillet or deep fryer to 375 F.
In large bowl, combine Bisquick, sugar, cocoa, egg, milk, and extracts. Beat vigorously with a wooden spoon until smooth. Stir in coconut.
Drop dough by heaping teaspoonfuls, 5 or 6 at a time, into the hot oil. As they rise to the surface, turn over with a slotted spoon. Fry until golden brown on both sides, about 3 minutes total.
With slotted spoon, remove from oil (drain slightly over skillet first), drain well on paper towel lined plate. Dip balls in powdered sugar and serve warm.
