Apple Compote

Ingredients

  • 6 baking apples
  • 6 dried figs
  • 1 lemon, sliced
  • 1 cup brown sugar
  • 1 cup water
  • 6 whole cloves
  • 1 cinnamon stick
  1. Bring sugar & water to a boil then add lemon & spices, reduced to a simmer & cook 10 minutes. Remove cinnamon stick.
  2. Core apples & place in a baking dish. Place figs around & between the apples. Pour spiced syrup over the apples & figs.
  3. Bake at 350 F basting occasionally, until apples are tender & syrup thickened, about 20-25 minutes.
